Between the dead and the missing... what is the toll of Arab victims in the Turkey earthquake?

A number of nationals of some Arab countries were killed, while the search for missing persons is still underway, in the devastating earthquake that struck large areas of Turkey and Syria, claiming the lives of 23,000 people so far.

The following is the latest information available on the number of victims and their nationalities:

Saudi Arabia


The Chargé d'Affairs of the Saudi Embassy in Ankara told "Okaz" newspaper that the Saudi citizen, who was missing under the rubble in Antakya, died.

Egypt


For her part, the Minister of Immigration and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, Ambassador Soha Gendi, confirmed the death of an Egyptian couple as a result of the Turkish earthquake, noting that "all the students are fine."


El-Gendy explained that "all Egyptian students are fine, and there are no deaths, except for the Egyptian couple who were killed on Tuesday, under the rubble of their house," adding that the Egyptian embassy at Tekia "is following up on the issue of transferring them to Egypt in the event that their families wish to do so."

Algeria


Two Algerians were also killed as a result of the devastating earthquake, according to what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad announced, Thursday.


The ministry stated, "The matter is related to the beds of Samiha (44 years old) and her daughter Barbar Hadil (13 years old), whose bodies were recovered in the city of Iskenderun in Hatay Governorate, in southern Turkey, and their identities were confirmed."


Algeria will ensure the return of their bodies, as the services of the Consulate General of Algeria in Istanbul, in coordination with the Turkish authorities, have initiated the transfer procedures.

Morocco


In turn, the official spokesman for the Moroccan government, Mustafa Paytas, said on Thursday that 4 Moroccans died in the Turkey earthquake, while 84 others were injured.


He pointed out that the crisis cell, which was formed to track the situation of Moroccans in light of the earthquake, received 1,743 phone calls from the Moroccan community in Turkey and their families, and 4 deaths were reported, while it was confirmed that 84 other Moroccans were injured during the earthquake, but they are in good health.


And the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ankara said on Tuesday that a Moroccan woman had died in the city of Antakya, pointing out that she was 51 years old and was married to a Turk, noting that the 16-year-old son of the deceased was taken to the hospital after suffering minor injuries, and he is Now healthy.

Sudan


Local media reported that a Sudanese student had died in the state of Malatya, but the Sudanese Foreign Ministry did not comment on this news, and said earlier, through its spokesperson, that "the conditions of all Sudanese in Turkey and Syria are stable."

Jordan


In Jordan, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ambassador Sinan Majali, said, "The consular team that was sent by the Jordanian embassy in Ankara to the city of Antakya continues to follow up the search and investigation work for the two Jordanian citizens who have lost contact with the Turkish authorities and other teams." Rescue and Hospitals.


He also explained that the Jordanian embassy in Ankara "has secured a number of Jordanian citizens residing in Turkey who were affected by the earthquakes, in shelters, in coordination with the Turkish authorities."

The Jordanian embassy in Damascus also "provided the necessary facilities for a Jordanian family residing in the city of Tartous, who requested to return to the Kingdom after their home was damaged in the earthquake."


Majali also indicated that "the ministry received a call from the families of a Jordanian citizen residing in Antakya, on Thursday evening, and they reported that her husband had confirmed the death of their sister as a result of the earthquake."

Yemen


The Yemeni Student Union in Turkey said, in a statement, that a Yemeni student, his wife and their daughter died as a result of the earthquake that struck the city of Malatya, adding that there are 5 cases still under the rubble and 109 materially affected. Other reports had mentioned that 6 Yemenis are on the list of victims.
